Train under Renzo Gracie black belts at lower Manhattan's neighborhood jiu-jitsu home — youth, adult, and no-gi programs serving Battery Park, Tribeca, and FiDi.
Classes for every age and experience level, taught by Renzo Gracie lineage instructors.
Youth Jiu-Jitsu
Ages 3 to 15, every day of the week
Lower Manhattan's family BJJ home. More than 190 active kids train across three age-specific class structures — coordination and play for ages 3–5, peer drilling and breakfalls for 6–8, an adult-style curriculum for 9 and up. We're a short walk from Battery Park City, FiDi, and Tribeca, where most of our families live.
21 weekly classes across 3 age groups — every day of the week
Three age-specific structures — 30 min play-based for 3–5, 45 min skill-building from age 6
No striking — pure grappling, fully supervised
Lower Manhattan's largest youth program
All-Levels Jiu-Jitsu
Train hard. Help each other.
Beginners and advanced students train together. New members pick up fundamentals naturally as they drill, and our sponsor system pairs them only with experienced training partners during live rolling — never beginner-versus-beginner. The room runs on mutual benefit: senior students are coached to guide newcomers, not to win against them.
16 All-Levels classes weekly — morning, lunch, and evening slots
Sponsor system protects new students during live rolling
Adult class every weekday at 5 PM (unusually early for Manhattan)
5,000 sq ft mat — among the largest in Manhattan
Family Training
Train while your kids train
Eight families currently have a parent training while their child trains next door. We built the schedule around it: every weekday at 5 PM we run an adult class alongside the Kids 9-and-up session — so one drop-off serves the whole family. Adult classes at 5 PM are unusual in Manhattan, where most start at 6.
8 families with a parent training alongside their kids
Every weekday 5 PM: adult class + Kids 9-and-up run in parallel
Drop off once, train together, pick up together
About 30 active kids have a sibling training alongside them
No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu
Eight weekly sessions — a real focus
Train without the traditional gi — submission grappling in the format used at ADCC and major tournaments worldwide. With eight weekly No-Gi sessions, you can string together a serious no-gi week alongside your gi training, or train primarily no-gi if that's your preference.
8 No-Gi classes weekly — across morning, lunch, and evening
ADCC-format submission grappling for all levels
Same sponsor system protects new students during sparring
Class Schedule
45 classes a week, with 21 of them for kids ages 3 to 15 — every day of the week. Our adult schedule runs weekday classes at 5 PM, unusually early for Manhattan, so parents can train while their kids do next door. Since opening in August 2023, more than 320 active members from across Battery Park City, FiDi, and Tribeca.

Co-Owner and Head Instructor
Renzo Gracie
Coral Belt · 7 Stripes
A coral belt under Carlos Gracie Jr., Renzo Gracie is one of the most influential figures in modern Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He brought the art to New York City in 1996 and has since coached generations of world-class competitors and instructors. A UFC and Pride veteran with three ADCC gold medals, Renzo still trains daily and works personally with students at every level — from beginners taking their first class to seasoned black belts.
Black Belt · 5 Stripes · Co-Owner and Head Instructor
Black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. since 2003, Luca has spent more than three decades in jiu-jitsu — first as a competitor, then as the founder of Gracie Magazine and the Renzo Gracie Online Academy. He co-owns the academy and oversees curriculum and instruction alongside the teaching staff.
Sean Santella
Black Belt · 3 Stripes · Instructor
Sean "Shorty Rock" Santella is a 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and longtime flyweight MMA veteran whose career spans world titles in both gi and no-gi competition, plus years coaching champions on the regional and international circuit. Detail-oriented on the mat and relentlessly curious off it, Sean spends his time outside the academy snowboarding mountains and surfing along the coast.
Thiago Saldanha
Black Belt · 2 Stripes · Instructor
Thiago Saldanha has spent more than two decades on the mat, with eight years dedicated to teaching the art he learned under Renzo Gracie. A multiple-time IBJJF Pan and World champion, he relocated from Rio to New York in 2016 and now splits his days between the academy and raising his two children — jiu-jitsu woven through every part of life.
Mathaus Anderson
Black Belt · 1 Stripe · Instructor
Mathaus stepped onto the mat at eleven years old, and what started as an after-school sport became the center of his life. He earned every belt through years of quiet, consistent work, and since 2017 he has been one of the lead instructors for the kids program. A successful gi and no-gi competitor in both Brazil and the United States, he brings that same competitive edge into every class he teaches.
Floriano Junior
Black Belt · Instructor
Floriano Junior was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and earned every belt of his career under Rafael Natal — culminating in a black belt won through years of consistent IBJJF competition starting at white belt. He spent eleven years working as an architect and urban planner before stepping fully into jiu-jitsu, where today he teaches both kids and adults with the same precision he once brought to design.
What Our Students Say
“RGA Wall Street has world-class instruction for kids and adults. The kids program is outstanding and great for neurodiverse kids — I've seen amazing increases in my son's body awareness, attention, confidence, coordination and strength. Cleanliness, safety and respect are first priorities and define the culture.”
“Our son has been training with Team Renzo Gracie for 7 years. It has had a tremendous impact on his confidence and abilities — he is now 16 and training with adults. A family-like group of wonderful mentors and role models, with genuine love and respect for each other.”
“We were visiting for a week from Colorado and our kids took three classes here. The kids classes are 45 minutes — a brisk warmup, clear methodical instruction, one-on-one practice, live rounds, and a fun game. Welcoming, encouraging, and patient while holding the kids to high standards.”
“The instructors are absolutely fantastic — kind, patient, and incredibly attentive to the kids. They make every child feel welcome and supported, ensuring everyone learns at their own pace while having a great time. The open new space provides the perfect environment for training, with plenty of room to move around comfortably.”
Your First Class
Here's what to expect when you walk through our doors for the first time.
01
Show Up Comfortable
Wear athletic clothing (shorts or leggings and a t-shirt). We provide loaner gis for your first class. No equipment needed.
02
Pair With a Sponsor
Your instructor pairs you with an experienced student — your sponsor for the session. They'll walk you through the warm-ups and break down each technique at your pace. You're never alone on the mat.
03
Drill at Your Pace
You'll do light, controlled drilling with your sponsor. We train by two principles — maximum efficiency and mutual benefit — so senior students guide newcomers rather than try to 'win' against them. Live sparring is optional on your trial.
04
Join the Community
After class, meet your new training partners. Most people are nervous before their first class and feel at home by the end of it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any experience to start?
None at all. Most of our members started with zero martial arts experience. Our All-Levels classes are designed for mixed-experience training — you'll pick up fundamentals naturally as you drill, and our sponsor system pairs new students with experienced partners during sparring (we never match beginner-versus-beginner). No prior training needed.
Can I walk in to try a class?
No. All first-time visits — trial classes and visitor passes — must be booked in advance. Reserving lets us plan mat space, prepare your locker, and brief your instructor. It also protects the safety and training environment our members count on: jiu-jitsu is a close-contact practice, and knowing everyone on our mats is part of how we take care of the community.
What should I wear to my first class?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing — shorts or leggings and a t-shirt. We have loaner gis (the traditional uniform) available for your trial class. Remove all jewelry before training. Bring water and a towel.
Is jiu-jitsu safe for kids?
Absolutely. Our youth program emphasizes technique, coordination, and discipline in a controlled, supervised environment. Classes are grouped by age (3-5, 6-8, 9+) so every child trains with peers at a similar developmental stage. There is no striking in jiu-jitsu. We are lower Manhattan's largest youth jiu-jitsu program, with families from Battery Park City, Tribeca, and FiDi.
How does your youth program work?
Three age groups, each with its own class structure. Ages 3–5 train for 30 minutes — coordination, balance, agility, learning to fall and roll — with most of the practice one-on-one with our instructors. Ages 6–8 add peer interaction, breakfalls, and the foundations of guard play in 45-minute classes. Ages 9 and up follow a more adult-style curriculum — takedowns, full ground game, an emphasis on submissions — spending roughly half the time on standing technique. We run 21 youth classes a week across all three age groups, seven days a week, and recommend 2 to 3 sessions per week — enough to build skill without burning a child out.
How much does it cost?
Adult monthly memberships start around $300, with youth and family pricing available. Your first trial class is free — the best way to see if Renzo Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Wall Street is the right fit before you commit. Come train, then we'll talk pricing in person.
What's included with my membership?
Unlimited classes at our Wall Street academy, plus training privileges at all four Renzo Gracie locations in New York: Wall Street, Upper West Side, the 30th Street Academy (Headquarters), and Brooklyn. New adult members also receive a Renzo Gracie kimono (gi), t-shirt, and gear bag at signup, and free access to Renzo Gracie Online Academy — our video library for reviewing techniques between classes.
How often should I train?
We recommend starting with 2-3 classes per week. This gives your body time to recover while building technique and muscle memory consistently. Many of our members train more frequently as they progress.
When will I start feeling competent?
For adults with consistent training, you'll generally understand where you are in each position after about three months. By six months most students are joining live rolling. After roughly a year (2–3 classes per week), you'll reach an intermediate level of proficiency. Black belt for adults typically takes more than six years — but you don't need to reach black belt to gain real efficiency and confidence on the mat.
How long until I get my next belt?
The adult belt system is white, blue, purple, brown, then black, each with four stripes. Promotion depends on technical knowledge and consistent attendance — there are no fixed timelines. With 2x or more sessions per week, typical ranges are: white belt 1–1.5 years, blue belt 2.5–4 years, purple belt 2.5–3 years, and brown belt around 2 years.
What is the difference between gi and no-gi?
In gi classes, you wear a traditional jiu-jitsu uniform (gi) which allows for grip-based techniques. No-gi classes use athletic clothing (rash guard and shorts) and focus on techniques without grips on clothing. Both are valuable and we offer classes in each format.
Where exactly is the academy?
We're located at 22 New Street in the Financial District, on the west side of the New York Stock Exchange. Note that NYSE security blocks the Wall Street entrance to New Street — please approach via Exchange Place. Walking distance from Battery Park City and Tribeca. Steps from Wall Street (2/3), Broad Street (J/Z), Bowling Green (4/5), and the Fulton Street transit hub (A/C/J/Z/2/3/4/5).
Do you offer women-only classes?
Not currently at Wall Street — all of our classes are co-ed. Many of our women members appreciate training alongside partners of all sizes and experience levels in a respectful, safety-first environment. If you're specifically looking for a women-only program, our Upper West Side academy offers a dedicated Women's Jiu-Jitsu & Self-Defense class.
I'm visiting NYC. Can I train with you?
Yes. Visiting practitioners purchase a training pass — day, week, two-week, or month options. Free trial classes are reserved for local residents considering membership. Reserve your mat space on our visitor passes page.
